Financial technology, also known as FinTech, is an economic industry composed of companies that use technology to make financial services more efficient.  FinTech refers to new applications, processes, products or business models in the financial services industry.

Fintech Programmes at National College of Ireland

National College of Ireland is offering a number of programmes in Fintech from its campus in Dublin’s IFSC.

Master of Science in Fintech

 This Masters level 9 QQI approved programme is offered on a one year full-time and 2 years part-time basis, subject to student numbers.

Finance, stereotypically is seen as a highly regulated industry dominated by banks that resist disruption and change. However, finance is now riding an entrepreneurial wave due to an influx of highly available and powerful computing resources and electronic services, accessible forms of data analytics, and disruptive technologies like BitCoin, WePay and Kickstarter. This course will provide you with the latest knowledge and competencies at the intersection of finance and technology.

You will study modules such as financial markets, data analytics, data governance and compliance and cyber security in your first semester.  Later you will study areas such as blockchain technologies, data visualisation and financial analytics and can choose from elective modules in areas such as digital forensics and crowd markets.  You will also undertake a research project on the area

This course will appeal to those from disciplines such as accounting, finance and economics who wish to move into the world of Fintech.

Postgraduate Diploma in Fintech

Our postgraduate Diploma is a level 9 QQI approved programme.  It covers the same content as the Masters Programme in Fintech except for the research project.  It will equip you with the latest knowledge in the rapidly emerging Fintech area.  Those who complete a postgraduate diploma can at a later stage complete the additional elements to achieve the MSc in Fintech.

 

Higher Diploma in Fintech

 Our Higher Diploma is a level 9 QQI approved programme. The course is currently offered over a one year or two year part-time schedule, subject to student numbers.

Higher Diploma courses are particularly suitable for those who already have a level 8 qualification in any discipline and wish to transfer to Fintech.  Therefore if you are coming from areas such as finance, computing or even the wider business area this course will appeal to you.  The course includes modules such as:

  • E-Finance and Services
  • Business Data Analysis
  • Data Governance and Security
  • Analysing Financial Data
  • An Introduction to Data Forensics
  • And lots more

Fintech is an area of rapid opportunity and this course has been designed in consultation with industry to provide graduates with the relevant skills the industry needs today.  The course is delivered by expert faculty and industry practitioners with established experience in the Fintech domain.
