Programme overview

The course has been designed to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and practical examples of the core elements of a Head of Finance role in today’s environment. The course will be delivered via 6 modules over a 7 week period. Each module will consist of a 3 hour classroom session

Modules

1. Introduction and Management Accounting

· Head of Finance role in a regulated environment, the budgeting and forecasting process, the cash conversion cycle, cash flow planning, break even analysis, branch analysis, ratio analysis, developing useful KPIs and reports.

2. Management Accounting and long- term decision making

· Capital investment decision making including appropriate financial analysis, financial management considerations, capital and reserves, additional skills in the use of excel modelling, due diligence and merger processes.

3. Strategy, planning & Corporate Governance

· Principles of good governance, key areas of strategic planning, responding to board queries, expectations of your role, increasing efficiencies and reducing costs, realisation of shareholder value.

4. Financial Accounting and reporting

· Financial accounting and double entry, the interaction between the income statement and the balance sheet, the principles of financial control, relevant taxes and payroll. An overview of GAAP, key financial reporting standards, end to end accounting for financial instruments, preparation of ad hoc financial reports, preparation of board reports and preparing for the AGM.

5. Audit and Regulation

· Working with advisors, preparation of an audit file, the key concepts of an audit, the audit process, regulatory reporting and preparing regulatory responses.
