Programme overview

The analysis and interpretation of data to address the problems of business and society is an area experiencing massive growth. Diverse areas such as insurance, retail, finance, green technology, pharmaceutical and medical and the government and public policy sectors are all looking for individuals with skills in analysing the ‘big data’ they are confronted with and helping them make management decisions. The Certificate in Data Analytics will give you a foundation and the skills to operate in this area. The aim of this new programme is to prepare learners in the basics of business analytics through building a foundation based on strong statistical knowledge, developing problem-solving skills for business analysis, and an understanding of the use of business data to deliver better decision-making.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Certificate in Business Analytics, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the principles and uses of descriptive statistics and inferential statistics.
  • Carry out analyses based on descriptive and inferential statistics within a business context.
  • Solve real business problems using generally accepted practices in the field of business analysis.
  • Develop analytical skills that enables learners to address business problems.
  • Decide what analytical tools would be most useful and what data structure is needed to address real business problems

Who is the course for

The programme is ideal for those who require an understanding of data analysis for their roles in finance or related areas. Applicants holding an honours degree (level 8 or equivalent) in any discipline will be considered for this programme. Candidates will ideally be able to demonstrate technical or mathematical problem solving skills as part of previous programme learning
